Transfer domain names
In July 2022, I have transferred my domain names which has been filed with MIIT to foreign domain name service provider
Earlier this year, Some people said, their VPS was blocked by some cloud services providers in China. Because their VPS has some illegal content or is used to proxy the Internet. Their domain names was also blocked together, and it cann’t even be appealed or transferred out.
If just block the VPS, They can restore the data via snapshots, images or backups. However, if the domain name is blocked, the loss will be too great. Many people may have operated their own websites or blogs for several years, and changing domain names will undoubtedly lose a large number of users. For netizens who build websites, domain names are equivalent to brands and traffic.
Although domain names are managed by the ICANN organization, they must also comply with the laws of various countries, so there is basically no way for them to be appeal in China, and they cannot even be transferred out.
Cloud service providers must abide by the MIIT and CAC and other agencies in China. Once the website has some illegal or grey area content, it is checked or complained, basically the cloud service provider has no right to give you the opportunity to appeal. The cost of defending individual rights is too high.
To sum up, I transferred most of my domain names to foreign service providers.
About filings
In fact, in 2020, I have been considering transferring all domain names abroad, but in order to use the domestic CDN to improve the user’s access speed experience, I can only keep it in the domestic service provider for the record.
According to the requirements of MIIT, the domain name must be registered and managed by a domestic service provider and certified by the real-name system. And several of my domain names have been filing with MIIT, I think this transfer abroad will inevitably affect the filings. But as of now, my filing is still there, and I can continue to use domestic servers and CDN services, but I guess it will be canceled sooner or later. Therefore, i reserves only one domain name as a CDN and some static resources to use in China.
